They don’t call Florida “The Sunshine State” for nothing!

As the summer temperatures reach up into the 80s and 90s, Florida residents flock to local beaches and pools. For Nocatee residents, that means making a beeline for the community’s popular Splash Water Park and Nocatee Spray Park – with its resort-style pools, 50-foot water slides, kids’ splash pad and Lazy River – or visiting one of the Atlantic Ocean beaches located just minutes away.

But what to do with the kids on those days when you want a break from the heat? Fortunately, Nocatee and Northeast Florida residents have a number of options for having fun in the shade.

Here are just a couple of the local attractions that offer an entertaining (and air conditioned) respite from the summer sun.

Ripley’s Believe it or Not Museum

Located in downtown St. Augustine, this “odditorium” boasts the distinction of being the first permanent Ripley’s attraction. With more than 800 exhibits across 10,000 air conditioned square feet, Ripley’s is a fun and informative place to while away a summer afternoon. Exhibits include everything from shrunken heads and Etruscan helmets to the world’s largest erector set Ferris wheel. Ripley’s Believe it or Not is open 365 days a year.

Museum of Science and History

Kids of all ages will enjoy spending some time at the Museum of Science and History, or “MOSH.” Located in downtown Jacksonville, the museum offers a wide variety of exhibits related to the natural world. Learn more about dolphins, whales, manatees and other marine mammals at Atlantic Tails. Say hello to some local Florida wildlife or gaze upward at the MOSH planetarium. Take a walk through 12,000 years of Florida's history in "Currents of Time".
